Cleaning & Maintenance Guide
Here’s some handy advice once your blinds are installed.
Honeycomb fabric is hollow and has open ends (thus can trap flies) . The Twin Honeycomb Manual Skylight Blind however sits within its own frame and is less likely to catch flies. That being said taking a little care cleaning will keep them looking their best for years to come.
Cleaning the Fabric
- Close the blind about 3/4 of the way.
- Use a vacuum cleaner (ideally with a soft brush attachment) from above to gently remove dust.
- You can easily clean between the pleats by lightly shifting the fabric at this position.
Cleaning the Aluminium Parts
- Use a glass cleaner to wipe down the aluminium frame.
- The powder-coated surface is durable so standard glass cleaners won’t cause any harm.
Cleaning Inside the Side Channels
- To clean the side channels, use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris.
- Don’t worry too much about achieving a spotless result—SkyLITE blinds are designed to work smoothly with minimal maintenance.
Important Cleaning Dos and Don’ts
Avoid using the following:
- Solvents
- Cleaning sand or pastes
- Organic thinners
- Strong alkaline detergents
Use these instead:
- A mixture of detergent and water or soap and water.
- Gentle cleaning tools like sponges or soft rags (avoid rough materials such as steel wool).
Cleaning Frequency
To keep your blinds in great condition:
- Clean them twice a year, ideally at the end of winter and summer, when pollen and dust levels tend to be higher (especially if windows and doors are left open in summer).
Regular Maintenance Checks
In addition to cleaning, it’s good practice to inspect your blinds a few times a year. Look out for:
- Increased noise when opening or closing.
- Uneven operation (e.g., one side opening faster than the other).
- Loose screws in the side channels.
- Wear and tear on cords or guiding profiles.
The stacking height includes the frame of the blind and the fabric stack. This stacking height is approximate per side. Stacking is based on Antiglare fabric, blackout fabric will be a slightly deeper stack due to the thickness of the fabric.
From 500 to 1100, the stack is within 87mm
